The towns and villages in this area are as varied as any part of Spain, from the developed and not so developed seaside resorts with their miles of sandy beaches, to the fascinating villages in the foothills and mountains of the Sierra Nevada.
The principal coastal towns of the Costa Tropical are Nerja, Torrox, Almunecar and Salobrena, each with individual character.
From the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist towns of Torrox and Nerja where you will hear English and German being spoken probably more often than Spanish. To Almunecar with its old castle and wonderful beaches but which still retains its real Spanish charm, Particularly in the old town area.
Salobrena is real Spain. A resort in the summer months mainly used by Spaniards from Granada, Jaen, Madrid and beyond - a beautiful sea front, an old "white village" perched on the side of a rocky promontory, topped by an ancient but superbly preserved castle.
The village is a bustling place on any day of the week where the local people shop, go to school, pass the time of day in the cafes and bars etc., in other words Salobrena is a place with a real soul.

There is a charming little golf course only a few minutes from the apartment which is open to all comers. The first tee and the 19th. hole are both situated on the beach in the most romantic of settings, click on the following link for full details.

Salobreña
From Apartment Salobreña, the entrance to the Alpujarra is only about 10 or 15 minutes drive through the most spectacular gorge of the river Guadalfeo.

Once in the Alpujarras the villages are totally different with their own little industries. These vary mainly because of their individual height above sea level and therefore the different climatic conditions for the growing of crops, rearing of animals etc; One can visit olive presses, rug making cottage industry, ham curing establishments and much more.

There can be little more pleasing than to collect your own almonds directly from the tree, picking a pomegaranate, or collecting chestnuts in the winter months to roast on a barbecue.
Trevelez Village - famous for cured hams
Sierra Nevada Ski Resort village
Sitting above the Alpujarras are the ( generally ) snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevadas, which are incidentally, clearly visible from the beach in Salobrena. Fun to lie on the beach sunbathing, looking at the snow on the mountains.

The Ski Resort of Sierra Nevada is only one  hour and ten minutes by car from Apartment Salobreña.

San Cristobal Beach
There are many diverse activities in the area, so there is always something for everyone. Golf only five minutes away. While you play golf the kids can swim on the beach.

Enjoy walking the dry riverbeds of the foothills, collecting herbs and wild flowers, follow the coastal footpaths which run for miles. Every type of water sport can be found within 10 minutes of Apartment Salobreña.

This is also a bird watchers paradise. Salobrena is on the edge of the Guadalfeo Delta which is heavily preserved. Thre are over 100 varieties of protected bird, 10 species of mammal also many species of reptile, fish and amphibians.

Dolphins can be seen playing in the sea just below the apartment most mornings and afternoons.
Last but by no means least we mention Granada. Only 35 minutes by car, this is truly one of Spains great cities. Visit the Alhambra Palace, shop till you drop. While away the hours at a street cafe just watching - whatever you choose to do in Granada - you will never forget it.
